Natalia Khoma, cello and Volodymyr Vynnytsky, piano. Works by Corelli, Chopin, Brahms, Popper and Vynnytsky. Light reception following the concert.

CONCERT CELEBRATING THE CENTENNIAL OF THE FOUNDER OF MACGC, IHOR SONEVYTSK
Y Fundraising Concert Event with the Grazhda Chamber Music Society

Anna Kosachevich, soprano; Vasyl Zatsikha, Nazar Pylyatyuk, violins; Richard Young, viola; Natalia Khoma, cello; and Volodymyr Vynnytsky, piano, will perform chamber music works by Sonevytsky, Skoryk, Smetana as well as the world premiere of a piano trio by Ivan Nebesny, commissioned by the Music and Art Center of Greene County for this occasion.
Reception following concert. Tickets at the door. Admission: $45


Friday, August 7 at 6 pm: Folk Singing Children’s Recital
Performance by pupils of the two-week Ukrainian folk singing course under the direction of Anna Bachynsky. (Course for children, ages 4–10; See workshops below for more information). Tickets: $5.

JULY 27–29 (three days)
GERDANY (Bead-stringing)
Instructor: Oriana Makar
Gerdany (bead-strung necklaces), traditionally worn with folk costumes in various regions of Ukraine, are in vogue and fun to make! Open to adults and children above the age of 11. Workshop hours: 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
$120 for full course; $40 per day

JULY 27–AUGUST 7 (ten days)
UKRAINIAN FOLK SINGING FOR CHILDREN
Instructors: Anna Bachynska, former Lviv Opera soprano, music teacher and choir director, and Melanie Serbay
Two–week fun-filled course in Ukrainian folk singing designed especially for children ages 4–10. Workshop hours: 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Note: The course ends with a recital and story-telling theater presentation on Friday, August 7 at 6 p.m.
$250 for 2-week/10-day course; $125 for 1 week/5 days

JULY 29–31 (three days)
STRAW CHRISTMAS “SPIDER”
Instructor: Moki Chodowska-Kokoris
A traditional Ukrainian straw decoration-talisman. It was hung from the ceiling (most often above the table) during Christmas holidays. The “spider” symbolizes the universe, harmony, well-being, it protects the home from negativity and brings an abundant harvest. Workshop hours: 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. 
$120 for full course; $40 per day

AUGUST 3–4 (two days)
WOODCARVING
Instructor: Father Ivan Kashchak
An important decorative and applied art in Ukrainian culture, people have carved wooden plates, spoons, bowls, canes, furniture, etc, for centuries. Students will learn the basics of working in this medium. Workshop hours: 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. 
$80 full course; S40 per day

AUGUST 4–7 (four days)
EMBROIDERY
Instructor: Lubow Wolynetz, Curator of Folk Art at The Ukrainian Museum (NY), and Curator and Librarian at the Ukrainian Museum and Library in Stamford (CT). Workshop in Ukrainian embroidery for all skill levels from beginner to expert. Make a decorative pillow, blouse, or tablecloth. All materials provided. Workshop hours: 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
$160 full course; $40 per day

AUGUST 5–6 (two days)
REVERSE GLASS PAINTING
Instructor: Moki Chodowska-Kokoris
In reverse glass painting paint is applied to the back of a glass pane; when turned over the viewer sees the image through the glass. This centuries old technique was used in iconography as an alternative art form to other traditional artistic depictions of religious imagery. Workshop hours: 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. 
$80 full course; S40 per day
